The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the commerce and industry ministry, has taken a significant step towards enhancing the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India by entering into an agreement, specifically an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India. This collaboration aligns with the government's 'Districts as Export Hubs' initiative and the 'Make in India' program, aiming to boost e-commerce exports and strengthen the position of Indian MSMEs in the global market.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive plan to equip MSMEs with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the e-commerce export landscape. Amazon India, as the first partner, will conduct capacity-building sessions, training, and workshops in 20 districts identified under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023. These sessions will cover crucial aspects such as digital cataloging, tax advisory, understanding e-commerce export regulations, and utilizing Amazon's e-commerce platform effectively.
This partnership is expected to yield several benefits for MSMEs in India:

Capacity Building and Skill Development | The training and workshops provided by Amazon India will empower MSMEs with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively participate in e-commerce exports. This includes understanding export regulations, product optimization for online marketplaces, and leveraging digital marketing techniques. |
Access to Amazon's E-commerce Platform | MSMEs will gain access to Amazon's vast e-commerce platform, enabling them to showcase their products worldwide to a global audience and reach potential customers worldwide. |
Support for New and First-time Exporters | The initiative will provide dedicated support to new and first-time exporters, guiding them through the e-commerce export process and helping them overcome initial challenges. |
Contribution to MSME Growth and Economic Development | By enabling MSMEs to export their products globally, the initiative will foster their growth and contribute to the overall economic development of India. |
The DGFT is also exploring collaborations with other major e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart/Walmart, eBay, Rivexa, Shopclues, Shiprocket, and DHL Express to expand the reach and impact of this initiative. This collective effort is expected to play a significant role in achieving the ambitious goal of $1 trillion in goods exports by 2030.
