Unfortunately, UPI requires a smartphone to use as it is a mobile-based payment system. The UPI infrastructure relies on the capabilities of smartphones and their associated apps to securely and conveniently facilitate transactions.

Here's why you need a smartphone for UPI:
Mobile App: UPI operates through dedicated mobile apps provided by banks or third-party payment service providers. These apps allow you to link your bank account, generate a UPI ID, and perform transactions. Without a smartphone, you won't have access to these apps.
QR Code Scanning:
UPI uses QR codes for initiating payments at merchants or when transferring money to others. Scanning QR codes requires a smartphone camera, which is not available on non-smartphone devices.
Secure Authentication:
UPI employs a UPI PIN as an essential security measure to authorize transactions. The UPI PIN is entered on the smartphone app, which provides an additional layer of security. Non-smartphone devices lack the necessary interface to securely enter and authenticate UPI PINs.
Real-Time Connectivity:
UPI transactions are processed in real-time, relying on internet connectivity. Smartphones allow seamless access to the internet via mobile data or Wi-Fi, enabling instant transaction processing. Non-smartphone devices generally lack this internet connectivity.
However, if you don't have a smartphone, you can explore alternative payment methods like USSD-based mobile banking or *99# service, which allow basic banking services on feature phones without requiring internet access. These services are different from UPI but provide similar functionality in terms of transferring money and checking account balance.
It's worth noting that technology is constantly evolving, and new innovations may emerge in the future that could enable UPI or similar payment systems on non-smartphone devices. But as of now, UPI is primarily designed for use on smartphones.
