India will launch two mega greenfield airports in October 2025 — Navi Mumbai on Oct 8th and Noida-Jewar on Oct 30th. Let's see how much was invested in them, what jobs they'll create, and what the new hubs mean for travel, cargo, and regional growth.

October 2025 will be a landmark in b as two mega greenfield airports go live — Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Noida International Airport (Jewar). Scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they are expected to irreversibly reshape domestic aviation and the regional economies. NMIA is being inaugurated on 8 October 2025, while Jewar is slated for 30 October 2025.

Investment

Both projects are multi-billion-dollar endeavours including terminal buildings, runways, cargo facilities, connectivity works, and large land-side developments.

  • NMIA’s Phase-1 cost roughly ₹22,000 crore, with additional expansion worth ₹30,000 crore planned.
  • Jewar’s multi-phase programme totals around ₹30,000 crore across stages.  (Engineering News-Record)

Economic Impact

The Navi MUmbai and Jewar airports will relieve chronic congestion at Mumbai’s and Delhi’s primary airports respectively, making space new direct international routes, and expanding cargo capacity — a major shot in the arm for exporters and time-sensitive logistics. Further, NMIA will link to an “aerocity” and CIDCO's smart-city plans, while Jewar anchors investment in the National Capital Region’s eastern corridor.

Job creation

Independent project and industry estimates forecast hundreds of thousands of direct, indirect and induced jobs over the construction and operational phases in construction, airport operations, hospitality, retail, cargo handling and regional services. For example, NMIA is expected to crete ~142,000 direct and 200,000 indirect jobs in the region.

Returns on Investment

How quickly the huge costs of construction are recovered depends on passenger growth, tariff structures and non-aeronautical revenues (retail, real estate and hotels). Traffic is expected to ramp up to ~20 million passengers/year for NMIA and ~12 million passengers/year for Jewar Phase-1. Futher, developers monetising adjacent land and commercial projects will also contribute to the local economy.

Credit and industry reports forecast around ₹1 lakh crore of total airport sector investment in the coming years across India.
